Are Earthquakes

Increasing Globally?

….And the Reason Why

(Healingtalks) Are major earthquakes becoming more frequent? In the aftermath of the magnitude-5.8 earthquake in Virginia, a whole lot of people are asking those questions. All over the mainstream media, “experts” are coming on and assuring the public that all of this is “normal” and that the number of earthquakes is not actually increasing. The USGS continues to insist that the frequency of major earthquakes has been “fairly constant” and that there is no reason for alarm. But is that really the truth?

Evidence of Earthquakes Increasing

The truth is that this year we are on pace to have more than double the  number of major earthquakes than we did 10 years ago.

The mainstream media is much more interested in keeping people calm than it is in telling them the truth. Our planet is becoming increasingly unstable. The Virginia earthquake is already being called a “once a century” earthquake for the east coast. The earthquake was felt from Georgia all the way up to Ottawa, Canada. It was felt as far west as Cleveland, Ohio. It prompted the evacuation of congressional buildings and the Pentagon. The earthquake actually cracked the Washington Monument and now it is closed indefinitely for repairs.  But that was not the only major seismic event in the U.S. that day. Amagnitude-5.3 earthquake rattled the area along the Colorado/New Mexico border. That was the largest earthquake that region had seen in more than 40 years.

If these were isolated incidents, that would be one thing. Unfortunately, major earthquakes are popping up all over the globe with alarming frequency. In fact,a magnitude-7.0 earthquake just struck northern Peru.

But just because we have had some notable earthquakes this year does not mean that earthquakes are increasing in frequency.

Hard Numbers on Earthquakes

Back in 2001, the world had 1361 earthquakes of magnitude-5.0 or greater. This year, we are on pace to have over 2800. In fact, the number of major earthquakes this year is going to be the highest number we have seen during this past decade by far.

Official Story On Why Earthquakes Are Increasing

The following is what the USGS has to say about why it seems that the number of earthquakes is increasing….

We continue to be asked by many people throughout the world if earthquakes are on the increase. Although it may seem that we are having more earthquakes, earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant.

A partial explanation may lie in the fact that in the last twenty years, we have definitely had an increase in the number of earthquakes we have been able to locate each year. This is because of the tremendous increase in the number of seismograph stations in the world and the many improvements in global communications.

Are you buying that? Yes, technology may enable us to detect more earthquakes than we did 50 or 100 years ago, but there has not been a quantum leap in earthquake detection technology during this past decade.

Undeniable Evidence of Earthquakes Increasing

But what we have seen during this past decade is a definite rise in the number of major earthquakes.

The above chart shows the number of earthquakes having a magnitude of 6.0 or greater since 1973. This chart comes from dlindquist.com, and it includes data for this year. As you can see, the number of magnitude-6.0 earthquakes for this year is “off the charts” because we are on pace for well over 200…. So after viewing these charts, how can anyone still deny that the number of major earthquakes is increasing? But that is exactly what all of the “experts” on the mainstream news are going to keep on doing.

In the end, do your own research and find out for yourself. Don’t let the television do your thinking for you.

We Live in Unstable Times

The reality is that we live in very unstable times. Unfortunately, the increase in the number of earthquakes appears to be part of a larger trend. So far in 2011,natural disasters of all types seem to be increasing in frequency. We all remember what happened earlier this year in Japan. That was an event that was absolutely unprecedented in modern Japanese history.

But we have also seen a lot of other weird geological events around the globe so far this year.

For example, a few weeks ago a series of earthquakes caused an entire river to disappear in Costa Rica.

In addition, gigantic cracks and massive sinkholes have been appearing all over the earth. Nobody is quite sure why this is happening.

There are all sorts of theories about why the planet seems to be becoming more unstable, but you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that this is not a good trend and that we should all be preparing for the worst.

In the United States, there is quite a bit of evidence that the New Madrid fault is starting to come to life. If you live in the middle part of the country, you should really get educated about the history of the New Madrid fault and about what a major earthquake in that area could mean for you.

There is a whole lot to be concerned about on the west coast as well. More earthquakes occur along the “Ring of Fire” than anywhere else, and there is a lot of evidence that we are starting to see the “Ring of Fire” become a lot more active.

Don’t Be Fooled

Its time to know the truth and to prepare yourself. The next time an “expert” appears on television assuring you that earthquakes are not becoming more frequent and that you don’t have anything to be concerned about, don’t be so quick to believe that person Cold, hard reality tells us  the number of earthquakes are increasing on our planet.

Yes, it is a bit frightening, but wouldn’t you rather know than be left in the dark so that corporations can, with equal blindness, focus just on increasing profits while releasing forces all over our planet…like deforestation and increasing global air pollution leading to climate change…forces that converge together and ultimately leads to havoc for our planet.

Very Important to Read Our Blog Posts on the False Foundations of Modern Civ.

Time an again, our civilization can be shown to be based on a worldview that is bankrupt. This refers to the 17th century vision of a math-based, mechancial view of nature. We’ve shown elsewhere how this cannot but predictably lead to disasters in nature rather than “progress for civilization” ….and that Galileo, Newton and Descartes’ vision – the foundations of physics, chemistry (which create a marriage with commercial forces) does not represent the true binding order of nature cosmically but actually and predictably pollutes and tears apart the whole fabric of living nature.

We live on a living planet

It is important to learn how at the core of nature is life and consciousness (including at the core of our own planet and at the core of other planets and the stars in our solar system…and where consciousness, at the core of life, is the universal relationship of connection in nature. This is deep wisdom about what truly holds all of nature together, again including  the planet earth together as a whole…and even our own physical bodies. Introduce the math-based, mechanical, death-centered vision of nature (where math symbols are the abstractions of universal separation, disintegration, atomic explosions, falling apart and rifting apart of nature) and the consequences, even if manifesting in a delayed fashion after 400 years , become all the more aparent and deadly. In time they include pandemic chronic ills and the illness of our whole planet.

OUR BIGGEST SECURITY THREAT: Global Warming-Induced Extreme Weather

global warming induced extreme weather

Global Warming

Induced Extreme Weather

Based on an article By Scott Thill, AlterNet

(Healingtalks) Global warming is primarily  not about rising temperatures that will burn us alive. Rather scientists have predicted  for years that global warming would produce disruptive weather extremes and on either side of the thermometer.

Climate Change Assassins

This  winter America survived a snowpocalypse, and now that summer has arrived, we’ve got a heat dome.

If you’re wondering what that is — it’s another climate change assassin. If you’re looking for a more technical definition, according to National Geographic a heat dome is a seasonal high-pressure system of dense hot air, one with a highly unusual strength and size, stretching one million square miles from the Rocky Mountains to the East Coast. It’s already killed a couple dozen people, adding to a swelling death toll resulting from recent tornadoes and floods that bedeviled the nation this year.

It conforms easily to the ravages of Kevin Borden and Susan Cutter’s so-called Death Map — academically known as “Spatial patterns of natural hazards mortality in the United States” — which in 2008 looked into climate change’s crystal ball and found intensifying natural disasters capable of reshaping the nation via catastrophes. According to University of South Carolina scholars Cutter and Borden, heat and drought were the main death-dealers, along with extreme summer and winter events. Borden now works for homeland security risk management specialist Digital Sandbox. If his post-academic career choice doesn’t confirm it outright, then recent warnings from the United Nations Environment Program should:

Global warming nightmares, not terrorists, are the most dangerous threat to our existence.

In other words, the heat dome may be really bad news, but it’s only part of a much bigger picture: We are facing extreme weather from climate change that is challenging life as we know it.

Bigger Global Warming Picture

“I think we need absolutely realistic reporting on what’s going on now, and what we can expect in the future,” explained 350.org co-founder and environmentalist Bill McKibben. Long ago he saw the link between climate change and the lethal tornadoes that leveled Missouri and Alabama, for example.

“I think the fact that the climate is coming unhinged already is starting to break through. How could it not with simultaneous Dust Bowl-scale drought in the Southwest, and Noah-scale flooding in the middle of the country?”

Scientists have long predicted things are going to be bad. Now they are upping how fast this will happen.  For the North Pole is melting much faster than everyone thought. For all of its supposedly radical activism, if you ask the denialists, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), along with most other scientists have all been extremely efficient at one thing: Underestimating the severity of global warming.

“Scientists are by nature conservative, so it doesn’t surprise me that the earliest estimates of climate change’s impact would be underestimates,” McKibben told AlterNet. “But since the rapid melt of Arctic ice in the summer of 2007, scientists have been trying to send the message that things are happening faster and more violently than expected. The political community, including the United Nations bureaucracy administering the climate talks, hasn’t caught up.”

Too Late to Control Global Warming?

It could be too late for them to counteract that fatal mistake, according to writer James Howard Kunstler. They may have been better off striking while the iron was hot, especially given how little the American public wants to hear what they have to say. “The scientific community is demoralized by its realization that the public and our leaders are not sane and rational,” he told AlterNet. “The so-called Climategate scandal of 2009, organized by right-wing denialists, pretty much did in the scientists’ hopeful sense of activism. They’re just stuck now with the awful results of the science, and nobody wants to hear about it.”

Even the scientists are starting to crack under the pressure. University of Washington paleontologist Peter Ward, who is continuing his study of planetary mass extinction this summer by studying the 500-million-year-old living fossil Nautilus in the remote Pacific, is severely pained by his ability to be right on the data but wrong on people actually caring enough about it to awake from their mediated, medicated stupor.

“I wrote a book in 1994 called The End of Evolution: A Journey in Search of Clues to the Third Mass Extinction Facing Earth that said, within in a decade or two, we’d be seeing these monumental destructions, and people laughed at it,” he told AlterNet. “I wrote just last year about sea-level rise in The Flooded Earth saying that things look pretty desperate for the next 60 to 80 years, and got almost no reviews. Luckily, I’m not going to be alive to see the worst of it. But the sad thing is that it’s horrible to be right, just horrible. Somebody gave me the foresight to see what’s coming, and I don’t like it.”

We’re headed toward a great extinction, McKibben told AlterNet. “The only question is how great. That still remains within our ability to influence. Job one is to stop pouring more carbon into the air.”

The other job? Stop pouring more people onto the planet.

“The single driver going on here is the increase in human population,” added Ward. “Everything goes back to that. It explains every one of these phenomena: Global warming, marine extinction, changes in living patterns and even in the economies of the world. Way too many people, way too fast. And it’s running away.”

Perhaps, there are those who feel there is no connection between mass extinction and their evidently more important sociopolitical and economic troubles. But they would be much better off realizing that, like the Earth itself, all of these problems are interconnected. Our continuing economic recession was specifically built upon hyperreal stratagems designed to distract people from the fact that they were — like pretty much everything we’re doing these days — wholly unsustainable, and would benefit only the filthy rich global elite who have disconnected from national interests altogether.

The Rich Destroying Our Planetary Ecology?

The fact that American politicians, who are mostly millionaires, are currently playing chicken with New Deal standouts like Social Security or, in the case of Republican senator Eric Cantor, actually shorting U.S. Treasuries, should be about as surprising as territories in Borden and Cutter’s Death Map being torn apart by droughts, firestorms, floods and worse.

There is no difference between rapacious mortgage robosigners and what Kunstler calls climate change’s “professional denialists.” These are all callous cashouts of the American people, and their cities and states, by the powers-that-be. Losing that F-150 that you should never have bought or that mortgage contract you should never have signed is just a phase of the new nightmarish normal. Next comes losing your country to a global elite invested in its downfall, and after that comes losing the country to permanent droughts and extreme natural disasters.

And so here we sit in the barely new decade of our barely new century, quagmired in game theories above our head, governed by a global elite who have little care for our welfare or even our going-broke cities. To think they’re not as invested, literally, in our ignorance of climate change’s myriad massacres as they are in pulling the plug on our social safety net is suicide on a global scale. Drowning in debt, deceit, natural catastrophes — what’s the difference? If we don’t start seriously sweating the existential crisis of climate change and ignoring the small-time drama of terrorism and partisan sellouts, then we’re finished.

For Many Species, No Escape as Temperature Rises

deaht of species

In the light of my advocating a life-centered vision of nature and opposing the modern dominance of a mechanical, dead, machine-like vision of nature’s essence, it is important to know just how immensely we are destroying life in nature – and in an accelerating way.

At the early stages of the Industrial Revolution, the environmental threats were minor because they have grown in expanding circles. These impacts now engulf our planet. Global warming is a key indicator of this whole panet effect. Given the deeply interconnected weave of life , trends may threaten from 20-50% of all species on Earth in the next 100 years. In fact, we ourselves are not immune from so being threatened with extinction and unless we wake up to from our core illusions can we avoid such a fate.

In truth, our culture’s controlling approach to nature can be viewed as a bit crazy and ultimately impinging on the survival of life on our planet.

For Many Species, No Escape as Temperature Rises

By ELISABETH ROSENTHAL NY Times 01.21.2011

KINANGOP, Kenya — Simon Joakim Kiiru remembers a time not long ago when familiar birdsongs filled the air here and life was correlated with bird sightings. His lush, well-tended homestead is in the highlands next to the Aberdare National Park, one of the premier birding destinations in the world.

When the hornbill arrived, Mr. Kiiru recalled, the rains were near, meaning that it was time to plant. When a buzzard showed a man his chest, it meant a visitor was imminent. When an owl called at night, it foretold a death.

“There used to be myths because these are our giants,” said Mr. Kiiru, 58. “But so many today are gone.”

Over the past two decades, an increasing number of settlers who have moved here to farm have impinged on bird habitats and reduced bird populations by cutting down forests and turning grasslands into fields. Now the early effects of global warming and other climate changes have helped send the populations of many local mountain species into a steep downward spiral, from which many experts say they will never recover.

Over the next 100 years, many scientists predict, 20 percent to 30 percent of species could be lost if the temperature rises 3.6 degrees to 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit. If the most extreme warming predictions are realized, the loss could be over 50 percent, according to the United Nations climate change panel.

Polar bears have become the icons of this climate threat. But scientists say that tens of thousands of smaller species that live in the tropics or on or near mountaintops are equally, if not more, vulnerable. These species, in habitats from the high plateaus of Africa to the jungles of Australia to the Sierra Nevada in the United States, are already experiencing climate pressures, and will be the bulk of the animals that disappear.

In response to warming, animals classically move to cooler ground, relocating either higher up in altitude or farther toward the poles. But in the tropics, animals have to move hundreds of miles north or south to find a different niche. Mountain species face even starker limitations: As they climb upward they find themselves competing for less and less space on the conical peaks, where they run into uninhabitable rocks or a lack of their usual foods — or have nowhere farther to go.

“It’s a really simple story that at some point you can’t go further north or higher up, so there’s no doubt that species will go extinct,” said Walter Jetz, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at Yale, whose research last year predicted that a third of the 1,000 mountain birds he studied, or 300 species, would be threatened because warming temperatures would decimate their habitats.

Birds are good barometers of biodiversity because amateur birdwatchers keep such extensive records of their sightings. But other animals are similarly affected.

Two years ago, scientists blamed a warming climate for the disappearance of the white lemuroid possum, a niche mountain dweller in Australia that prefers cool weather, and that was cute enough to be the object of nature tours. Many scientists, suspecting that the furry animal had died off during a period of unusually extreme heat, labeled the disappearance the first climate-related animal extinction.

Since then, biologists have found a few surviving animals, but the species remains “intensely vulnerable,” said William F. Laurance, distinguished research professor at James Cook University in Australia, who said that in the future heat waves would probably be the “death knell” for a number of cold-adapted species.

For countries and communities, the issue means more than just the loss of pleasing variety. Mr. Kiiru regrets the vastly diminished populations of the mythic birds of Kikuyu tribal culture, like buzzards, owls and hawks. But also, the loss of bird species means that some plants have no way to pollinate and die off, too. And that means it is hard for Mr. Kiiru to tend bees, his major source of income.

Current methods for identifying and protecting threatened species — like the so-called red list criteria of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, a conservation gold standard — do not yet adequately factor in the impact of probable climate shifts, and the science is still evolving, many scientists say.

Some species that scientists say are at most risk in a warming climate are already considered threatened or endangered, like the Sharpe’s longclaw and the Aberdare cisticola in Kenya. The cisticola, which lives only at altitudes above 7,500 feet, is considered endangered by the international union, and research predicts that climate change will reduce its already depleted habitat by a further 80 percent by 2100.

Other Kenyan birds that are at risk from climate warming, like the tufted, brightly colored Hartlaub’s turaco, are not yet on watch lists, even though their numbers are severely reduced here. A rapid change of climate can quickly eliminate species that inhabit a narrow niche.

On a recent afternoon, Dominic Kimani, a research ornithologist at the National Museums of Kenya, combed a pasture on the Kinangop Plateau for 20 minutes before finding a single longclaw. “These used to be everywhere when I was growing up,” he said.

He added: “But it’s hard to get anyone to pay attention; they are just little brown birds. I know they’re important for grazing animals because they keep the grasses short. But it’s not dramatic, like you’re losing an elephant.”

As the climate shifts, mountain animals on all continents will face similar problems. Scientists at the University of California at Berkeley recently documented that in Yosemite National Park, where there is a century-old animal survey for comparison, half the mountain species had moved their habitats up by an average of 550 yards to find cooler ground.

Elsewhere in the United States, the pika, the alpine chipmunk and the San Bernardino flying squirrel have all been moving upslope in a pattern tightly linked to rising temperatures. They are now considered at serious risk of disappearing, said Shaye Wolf, climate science director of the Center for Biological Diversity in San Francisco, which in 2010 applied to protect a number of American mountain species under the United States’ Endangered Species Act.

Last year, new research in the journal Ecological Applications and elsewhere showed that the pika, a thick-furred, rabbitlike animal that takes refuge from the sun in piles of stones, was moving upslope at about 160 yards a decade and that in the past decade it had experienced a fivefold rise in local extinctions, the term used when a local population forever disappears.

On the Kinangop Plateau in Kenya, Mr. Kimani exults when he finds a Hartlaub’s turaco, once a common sight, near Njabini town, in a stand of remaining of old growth forest, after engaging local teenagers to help locate the bird. The turaco could lose more than 60 percent of its already limited habitat if current predictions about global warming are accurate, Dr. Jetz said.

“Even substantial movement wouldn’t help them out,” he said. “They would have to move to the Alps or Asian mountains to find their mountain climate niche in the future.”

GREATEST ILLNESS OF OUR TIMES

Greatest Illness of Our Times

LEFT BRAIN DOMINANCE
We live in a culture that is most extremely left-brain dominant, the most in humanity’s history. It is something spectacular that has evolved since ancient Greek times. In my opinion, it is a greatest of all cultural diseases, one that is ultimately fatal. I see it as occurring deep within, why we keep failing to heal our modern conditions using superficial and quick-fix solutions. We may blame material conditions or certain key persons (like George Bush, Stalin, Hitler, Mao), various politicians or corporate heads, when  actually, I believe, our whole planetary culture is suffering from an inner consciousness disease.

CONSCIOUSNESS DEMENTIA
When an individual person damages the right hemisphere of their brain (losing what tunes into depth connective/holistic/healing consciousness) - they  can see the world through the eyes of that left-brain awareness only (which tunes into an oppositely surface/illusionary/breaking apart awareness). Then and as a result, they suffer from dementia and schizophrenia. In short such an individual can’t put their world back together. They are lost and “a gonner,” like an Alzheimer’s patient who cannot connect to memories or connect vision to recognize a whole face – just its separate details. This is because again their connective consciousness is burnt out, harmed or superceded by the separative. The process becomes life destructive. This is because life is the concentrated presence of consciousness and consciousness forms the principle of connection itself in nature, which the right brain wisely tunes into in the raw. See our philosophy of raw-wisdom. Below are the most powerful drivers of that left-brain dominance.

MATH-BASED VISION OF NATURE TOPS THE LIST
Mathsymbols abstract how best and most powerfully to separate all elements of consciousness. We make each distinct, with beginning and end points. We favor physical separation and disintegrative energies – why fuel creates energy but love does not in physics. The core contradiction of that with this metaphysics one cannot  integrally connect a vision of nature using the highest abstractions of separation. We cannot connect by tearing consciousness apart. It is a reversal illusion of the highest of high orders. Math symbols rather the highest paradigm symbols or what universally and best organize a left-brain dominant view of reality. We cannot glue two things together using  the most powerful dynamite available within. The opposite proceeds naturally and predictably. It bears black sterile fruit over time. Thus the math-base vision, when increasingly globalized (especially since the middle of the 20th century) thus leads inevitably to what deeply threatens the sustainability of life on earth. It eventually manifests atomic energy/atomic weapons and a widespread pollution of our bodies and planet. The adaptation of that vision as the most dominant view of nature is really the culmination of nearly 2,000 years of left-brain dominant trends since ancient Greek times and heightened in the Golden Age of Greece. Even the atomic view and the mathematical that it reflects was present then in metaphysical forms.

A COMMERCIAL, CORPORATION-DOMINATED  SOCIETY
A commercial society links people together via monetary relationships as employer/employee, buyer/seller, landlord/tenant, lendor/lendee, and so on.  It gauges growth and “progress” thereby. It applies but the math-based, left-brain dominant ideologies to all social relationships – to mirror the root nature of our cosmos.  The first economist William Petty was a friend of Isaac Newton who first published Principia Naturalis Mathematica – the laws of nature as mathematical. This left-brain dominant model puts people into positions of separative conflicts called competition in lieu of cooperation. It creates ultimately progressive instability. The day a 100 year-old company can’t make its payroll or pay its debtors, the doors close and the individuals disband. The entity disintegrates because it was built on quicksand foundations. Separative relationships are by their nature superficial, non-deep and disintegrative. I have always predicted that what happened in 1929 did but suppressed the symptoms of a poor way of relating, furthering rebuilding the same with an eye on a future greater crash.  Also money corrupts consciousness the foundations of our collective progress are as illusionary as our vision of nature. Illusion is the breakdown (the separation of elements) in the integrity of consciousness. This makes the math-bound view the most surface-viewing, the most illusionary, and a commercial society as well.

ALLOPATHIC MEDICINE
Allopathic or contemporary modern medicine makes a marriage with mechanical, math-based understanding of nature (chemistry/drugs, physics/radiation, and genetics) and a commercial society to attempt to heal. This is an impossibility. As a result major chronic diseases are pandemic (dozens of physical and psychiatric diseases) and the percentage of sufferers are ever rising, especially among children. Chronic illness in children has at least quadrupled. Consciousness-illnesses like Alzheimer’s are especially on the rise. Healing is the process of connection to wholeness. Yet surgery cuts the body apart, as if it was a machine made of replaceable parts and thus it cannot truly heal. Chemistry is based entirely on math-bound principles that are not in harmony with life. Thus when you put a large random number of chemicals into a compost heap – to test not one or another chemical separatively in a controlled experiments using billions of dollars (something completely left-brain dominant) but the entire or whole understanding – what happens? Remember that a  compost heap is where all plants disintegrate or breakdown to form the building up ingredients for all new plants in a circle of universal unity of life . Everything then in the compost heap dies in the presence of a large random mix of chemicals. We form a miniature super-toxic waste site. We do the same in our oceans on a more grand scale and in our atmosphere as well – and to the point of threatening now, via climate change, the future the survival of our entire planet. We pollute our bodies in parallel, and to form cancer and birth defects and so on. We also treat ourselves with the same or more chemicals that cause cancer, and with more radiation that causes cancer, and with surgery that cuts the body’s wholeness apart.  The negative effects are supposedly minimal or “side-effects” and our failures to cure are supposedly the fault of the diseases being incurable. Our medical care system, centered around the most sterile hospital environments (that also serve junk and bioengineered food) is in such a shambles that it is  financially ruining our society and many individuals under medical care end up filing for bankruptcy. At the same time, governments, lobbied by corporations, try to impinge the promotion of any natural remedies to self-heal or what  might not create financial dependence upon doctors and drugs (ig. Codex, et. al.).

SIDE-NOTES
A right-brain damaged person literally suffers from the inability to connect reality but can expertly describe countless minute details and in a tick-tock, separate stepped, and even logical way. Because life is the concentrated presence of consciousness, and consciousness forms the principle of connection itself in nature, a consciousness-centered worldview is the opposite of a math-bound. It can manifest most strongly in the healing/life-connective arts and life supportive realms – such as organic agriculture. It elicits the opposite of a machine-designing, industrial and commercial society. The math-based view, by separating elements of consciousness has subordinate, rescuing value. It can be applied well in emergency medicine. It has some double negative roles, as in cutting out/killing (a negative) directed toward a toxic tumor (a second negative) which creates a double-negative-positive that is only superficially positive or symptom relieving. This creates the illusion of real healing – mistaking surface appearance for something depth or integrally true. Or it does not really nurture healing forces. However and on the flip side, when that vision is systematically applied and too deeply/globally, it vastly displaces the life and living, healing principles with the mechanical/death-ridden ones. Then  it promotes the wholesale destruction of human life, of surrounding ecologies, of the planet as a whole  or what is most whole and interconnected in nature, again organic life itself  via innate consciousness. It undermines that innate consciousness. It lures people from open organic fields working under the sun in mechanical factories and city living. Marx and Engels only critiqued the economic exploitation, while supporting the same underling vision. Liberal and conservative, socialist and capitalist thus sometimes produce the same end results if something deeper is not changed. For all the while, species around the planet are dying en mass. We too are so impacted  if we do not counteract all these trends at a more taproot or deepest level

NON-ORGANIC, NON-SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
This extends left-brain consciousness view to further disconnect us immensely from organic nature and whatever nurtures and heals our bodies. Pesticide-laden fields are life stripped. To a lesser extent, so are mono-cropped fields. They are left-brain dominant and linear. Bioengineering especially creates “terminator” seeds, plants and trees that are sterile and exhude death-laden chemicals throughout. Withthe destruction by bioengineering firms of heirloom seeds in massive quantities, and the crowding out of organic farming, it  has resulted in the what Time magazine once called The Death of Birth.

OUR EDUCATION
We learn first the three Rs – reading, writing, and arithmetic- causing the left brain to dominate at a most earliest of age. We prepare individuals for our commercial society. Our language, with ancient Greek roots, contains vowels. This causes each word to have a specific rather than whole-context meaning. The latter triggers left-brain dominance. When the Greeks introduced vowels into their language, it caused a brain polarity shift. Reading changed from right to left (right-brain dominant) to left to right (which is left-brain dominant).  An alternative to this kind of education is provided in the Rudolf Steiner Schools – first developing right brain skills to be dominant and latter the left.

OUR MEDIA
Our media and primary means of getting information are commercial enterprises. As a result, a “health” magazine that is significantly funded by pharmaceutical ads, will not give you the whole or true picture of what is happening on the health scene. Our major media are corrupted and it is often difficult to sift through distorted news. Our minds are programmed  to remain on the same cultural grid. The main impact of monetary exchanges, because they apply a math-bound view in social contexts, tends to be to focus, direct and thus control the direction of consciousness – to control life –  in a dominantly disintegrative way.

OUR SOCIAL STRUCTURE
In a commercial society like ours, the single person living separately alone is the single largest growing social statistic. Large, living together extended families,  found in the 19th century on sustainable organic farms, have all but become extinct. Other signs of social disintegration are rampant, as brought out in detail by Robert Putnam’s Bowling Alone.

TRANSPORTATION
Corporate interests lobbied hard to destroy the early rise in public transportation using railroads. This was replaced by the use of each person separately using metallic cars to ride on concrete highways. These are either asphalted and cement laden, traveling on paths that still more disconnect us from the living earth, and in order to accommodate the movement of mechanical wonders, cars and trucks, in accordance with Newton’s mechanical, dead forms of motion.

ENERGY
Governments and corporations have tried for nearly a century to kill alternative energy production that make sense and that do not pollute the planet. But it is precisely such energy sources that keep us financially bound. So the addictive game goes on. Nothing is more economically wasteful and dangerous to life than nuclear plants, but they are still promoted to as safe. Coal production, which  profoundly pollutes our planet,  is promoted as clean. This is the same as promoting synthetic drugs as healing.

CONCLUSION
Lock-stock-and-barrel we are but a deranged left-brain dominant society and culture, why much of what goes on really borders on a form of deep  insanity and is so obviously taking us down a road that is harmful to life and ultimately non-sustainable.

PRICE TAG OF GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE DEAL

No Comments 11 December 2009

THE BUZZ ON GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING
There is a buzz in international politics about the price tap for the currently proposed climate deal  at the Copenhagen conference. It is in the trillions of dollars and sounds huge!  On a global scale, however, it is actually a very small sum or a fraction of the total economic output over the next 20 years. Keep in mind there are  countless benefits to the proposed expenditures. These include new jobs and more secure living environments for all (or much lessened danger of global climate catastrophes – floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanoes, and earthquakes).

TRACKING ClIMATE TRENDS
For years, I personally have been tracking climatic changes and their global effects for over 30 years. Such stats are routinely published in the annual reports of World Watch (”State of the World“). Charts like the above from World Watch Magazine tell the true story, namely that climatic crises have really been steeply rising for the past few decades. This includes severe droughts, floods, earthquakes and tornadoes. One article in World Watch Magazine quotes Franklin Nutter, President of the Reinsurance Association of America, as saying “The insurance business is first in line to be affected by climate change…[It] could bankrupt the industry.”

NEVER MIND THEORIES
Entertain whatever neat theory you have of the causes, or whether global warming is real or not, but the facts of such rising disasters stand. The effects have left tens of millions of people homeless, more than on average in the past, and have especially harmed millions of farmers and their acres of crop lands.  The recent flooding of New Orleans is but a single example of hundred of such events recently around the globe.

EXTINCTIONS
This has also raised the rate of extinctions for animals and plants. Many cannot quickly adapt to the rapid climate changes. Think of what will happen to polar bears when their surrounding ice world melts forever.  Since tracking trends, I  have long predicted this would happen.

INNER CAUSE
What’s causing all of this? Is it more smokestacks, carbon emissions, etc. I have always, and instead, pointed to a root inner cause! For me such global climate crises are part of  what I call the last major wave of direct impacts of a failing, internally-generated 17th century vision of nature. It is that vision which still guides us to create the world around us, for better or worse. This refers to the mechanical view of Galileo, Descartes and Newton which also guided us to develop Industrial Revolution that now produces the smoke stacks, carbon emissions. and much more.

INITIAL IMPACTS
The earliest negative impacts of the 17th century’s vision were very slow in coming. It was not until 200 years later, in  the 19th century, that chiefly social negatives were observed by the likes of  Marx and Engels. The new factories obviously exploited workers. Attempts were made in the following 20th century to fix that problem. We got unemployment insurance and social security. Some countries went the socialist route.  However, the root vision that created the Industrial Revolution was never really challenged either by capitalists or socialists. the issue was only one of who ran the show, the government, the people or the capital owners. Both camps wanted to move forward with the same underlying vision in just different ways.  It is through our understanding of raw-wisdom that we do not keep that vision.

EXPANDING AND DEEPER IMPACTS
Next in the 20th century the impacts of the Industrial Revolution and its underlying vision started to have a far wider as well as deeper impact. It was no longer just us human beings that were affected. This major observation was first noted in a powerfully poetic way and popularized by Rachel Carson in her Silent Spring. Now in our present twenty-first century, the environmental impacts have grown and increasingly become global. Ultimately they can threaten the ecology of our whole planet. I will discuss more of this in my upcoming book on “Seven Waves of Healing” – essentially retracing and reversing  the impact of what the 17th century core vision set in motion. This, for me, is the overall and bigger of  picture of what is and can happen to our world.

COST OF INACTION
In this overall light, the New York Times quoted Kevin Parker, a head of Deutsche Bank Asset Management as saying “the cost of inaction…is the extinction of the human race.“  Maybe that dire statement is too dramatic. The  intermediate fate is really bad  enough.  I prefer to put a positive spin on this to say that this is a huge learning opportunity. It is similar to the opportunity of a cancer patient who can either just have his or her tumor cut out, poisoned or irradiated or can learn another way of living. The patient now is the planet as a whole.

GREAT NEWS
The GREAT news is that this opportunity is beginning to be taken seriously. The present tide is turning in favor of holistic action. It may be 15 years late but it is definitely coming.  Thanks to Al Gore, Obama and others it is finally happening.
