Compost!

The Ground Up

(HealingTalks) Compost is the key to organic farming and gardening and a great way to cut down on your garbage. Compost can easily be made at home from food waste (onion skins, fruit skins, etc.) or food no longer deemed edible. Coffee cans acts as a great receptacle for these types of materials. Put them close to where you prepare food so the waste is easy to discard, then simply put the lid back on the can. Just don’t ever put meat in your compost! Animal products will attract microorganisms you don’t want in your compost.

Composting Made Easy

Composting can be dome at home in 3 easy steps, outlined by Kristina from RawfullyOrganic.

  1. Eat the Food: If you’re raw vegan, composting essentially means never having to throw any food item into a landfill again! You’ll actually be doing good for the Earth every time you throw something out.
  2. Mix the Food with Soil: When your compost container is full, throw it into a pile of soil in your backyard or somewhere far enough away that the smell won’t become a problem.
  3. Rotate and Wait: Every few weeks, mix up your pile of compost. After a couple of months, it will be a great organic fertilizer or natural pesticide in your garden!
