Vegan athlete triumphs:
exciting year at 65
by Nathan Batalion, PhD, Naturopath, Triathlete
(Healingtalks) This has been an exciting year for me, the first in which I have tried my hand at triathlons as a vegan triathlete. I just completed my third competition in a series, all in New York State, namely at Cooperstown, Delta Lake and Old Forge, and sponsored by ATC Enduarance.
National triathlon ranking
By having participated and being scored in three USA Triathlon recognized events, this allows me to be nationally ranked. In the US and in my age category of 65 or over, I presently rank 215th nationally.
Why triathlons are a great sport
What I love about the triathlons is that in participating and training you develop more than just your cardiovascular and leg strength. Your core and upper body are also developed by means for the swimming. You also get to visit beautiful lakes, in remote settings , to greatly enjoy nature. It is thus, for me, an ideal sport.
Cardiovascular health a prerequisite
While I consider this an ideal sport, a prerequisite is good cardiovascular health, which is best gotten on a plant based, no cooked oil diet.
Below is a photo from a study of the effect of a plant based diet on a coronary heart disease conducted by Dr. Esselstyn. we can see where on the right it show the opening of a previously constricted artery and after about three years of adopting a plant-based diet.
