HEALTH & NUTRITIONAL REASONS TO GO VEGAN
According to the American Dietetic Association, vegetarians have less obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancers. Studies of vegetarian Seventh Day Adventists have confirmed this along with the massive China Study. You can get a synopsis of this study by subscribing to our newsletter. If you think that a vegan diet lacks adequate nutrients or proteins, think again. See the Great Protein Myth article by Steve Pavlina.

ENVIRONMENTAL REASONS TO GO VEGAN
The way animals are raised in factory farms is not only cruel to animals and harmful to the health of our bodies.  It is also highly destructive to our environment.  A good book on the subject is Diet for a New American by John Robbins, heir to the Baskin Robbins fortune who turned against his parents’ industry. Animal factory farming is the single largest contributor to global warming and produces more greenhouse gases, according to a 2006 UN study, than all SUVs, cars, trucks, planes and ships combined. Ground and water pollution from intense and large factory farming operations (their sewage and drug disposal) similarly impacts the surface of our planet.

According to Dr. David Brubaker, PhD, at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for a Livable Future, “The way that we breed animals for food is a threat to the planet. It pollutes our environment while consuming huge amounts of water, grain, petroleum, pesticides and drugs. The results are disastrous.”  This also means that each meal we eat will greatly impact global warming and surface pollution of our planet.
