Getting kids to eat their veggies

Now that my kids are getting older, it is becoming more and more difficult to convince them to maintain their healthy diets. When they were babies, it was easy to puree all-natural, organic food for them, and they would love to eat it. Now that they are going to school and experiencing other foods that I have no control over, it is getting more difficult to keep raw food in their diet.

Juicing

One method that I have used to make vegetables more palatable to them is juicing. When you combine fruits and vegetables in juice, the natural sweetness of the fruits masks the flavor of the vegetables that may be disagreeable. By combining vegetables that normally would put-off my children with sweet fruits, I am able to give them their vegetables without them noticing.

Other tips

There are many other great tips for getting the kids to go for the veggies:

  • Set an example
  • Make it fun and get kids involve in food preparing
  • Serve foods that are colorful and in attractive arrangements
  • Spice it up
  • Be gentle but persistent
  • Talk to kids about what the food do¬† for them in terms of their values
  • Enforce the one bite rule – that they must at least taste it
