Stress in Age Groups

Stress affects people at every age and phase of their lives. However recent studies show that older generations seem to experience less stress over time. One study found that young Americans (18-33 years of age) experienced higher stress levels. These stress facts ithose aged 18 to 33 are highly stressed. Approximately 39 percent said their stress levels had also gone up in the prior year and 52 percent said this caused some insomnia.

A Few Causes for Stress in the Younger Generation

Rougher economic times, higher unemployment rates and less economic expectations,  higher student loans and similar factors have impacted the younger generation.

Ronald Kesser from Harvard Medical School observed that the degree stress-related problems among young people in the USA is difficult to gauge because very few studies focused on the long term . He says that there is little evidence to show that rates have changed over the long haul.

Stress Among Millennials or Generation Y

Millennials are generally those born  somewhere between the 1970’s  and 2000. About 40 percent of these Millennials polled claimed that their health care providers did not offer adequate assistance to cope with stress. As result young Americans are likely to get irritable or enraged due to stress unlike older people. At the same time more Millennials were diagnosed as suffering from depression or anxiety than their elders.

20% of Americans Suffer from Considerable Stress

Overall the study showed that 20 percent of Americans had a high levels of stress. The survey carried out in August 2007 involving 2,020 adults in the US. On a 10 point scale where 1 indicated the least stress and 10 the most,  20 percent scored 8 or above.
