Nathan Batalion, Global Health Activist, Healingtalks Editor

(Healingtalks) Just because those cute little bear-shaped bottles in the store say “honey” doesn’t mean there actually is any therein!

Under-palate Honey Investigation

A comprehensive investigation conducted by Food Safety News (FSN) found most so-called “honey” products had the feel and look of honey, being golden and syrupy….but did not contain any pollen. According to the FDA, this means the products are not truly “honey” – not the healthy, unadulterated product consumers expect.

Vaughn Bryant, one of the nation’s leading melissopalynologists and director of the Palynology Research Laboratory at Texas A&M University, evaluated 60 or more products labeled “honey” but found that 76 percent of major grocery chains and 77 percent of big box chains like Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart, sold “honey” that contained no pollen. Also so-called “honey” sold by drug stores like Walgreens and CVS, and fast food restaurants like McDonald’s and KFC, were 100 percent pollen-less.

What’s In this Adulterated “Honey”?

It is difficult to say for sure what is in this processed food. Pollen is a key ingredient used to verify honey’s identity. According to FSN, the imposter honey is probably imported from China, and may further be contaminated with antibiotic drugs and other foreign and coloring materials. Most conventional honey products have also been ultra-filtered illegally.

Rendering Honey Pollen-less

According to FSN, ultra-filteration means that “honey” products have been intensely heated, forced through extremely tiny filters, and potentially even watered down or adulterated. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) again considers such ultra-filtered products not to be honey. Yet the agency, being a handmaiden of both Big Pharma and the processed/junk food industry, doesn’t halt this inflow. It stonewalls petitions for a n effective national standard to verify the integrity of honey.

Why It Matters

Ultra-filtering destroys most all the medicinal properties of honey. The removal of pollen and other healing ingredients renders the end product medicinally dead and health-worthless.

Health Benefits of the Real McCoy Honey

Raw honey is a healthy food that is an energy and immune system builder. It also alleviates stomach problems, anemia, allergies, and many other health conditions. Its an natural remedy for hangovers, insomnia, and sore throats. Some say its the highest natural source of living enzymes – exactly what ultra-filtration destroys. In other words, ultra-filtered honey equates with the opposite, an unhealthy food – a mega-processed, denatured, harming “phood” like white table sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup.

The Good and Sweet News

All the honey FSN tested from farmers markets, food cooperatives, and “natural” stores like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods did contain pollen along with antioxidants and other nutrients. Local beekeepers are a further direct and local source of such raw, unprocessed, real honey. pure honey, buying honey, honey products, healing honey,
