WHY WE LOVE THE RAW FOOD DIET & LIFESTYLE
BECAUSE OF ENZYMES IN RAW FOODS?
Do we love the raw food diet because of enzymes in the food? I have great respect for Ann Wigmore, one of the founders of the raw food movement who advocated that we should eat a living foods diet due to their life-enhancing enzymes. Get your daily dose of enzymes was the rallying cry. These enzymes will aide digestion. They also speed up countless chemical reactions in our body. If you heat a food over 110 degrees, most of the enzymes tend to die. On the surface, this sounds great. However, there is a problem with this neat rationale. It actually reinforces a dominant mechanical view of nature (if enzymes are chemically-defined) and one that is, as I would claim, a guiding belief that is actually the chief cause of the destruction of life all over our planet!
