Vegan body builder, Jim Morris, age 78 – can it get any better?
(Healingtalks) Jim Morris first became aware of a plant based diet in 1969. This was after having won all the body-building contests on the east coast and whereupon he moved from NY City to Los Angeles and started training for national contests. His new training was under a coach who had been Mr. Universe for three times, and was later to win that title for a fourth time, namely, Bill Pearl of Pasadena, CA . Bill was also a lacto – ovo vegetarian and his strength and muscle gain so impressed Jim that he made a diet change himself. After wining the Mr. America title in 1973, for the following 11 years he eliminated all animal products, except fish and cheese. Between 1985 and 1999 I weaned myself from these remaining elements of his diet.
Solving Jim’s initial health problems
Previously Jim had suffered from digestive problems, including constipation, arthritis, and allergy attacks. He was on anti-inflammatory drugs for his joins and sometimes cortisone injections. After becoming a vegan all these health problems vanished and he even stopped, except to read very small print, wearing his eyeglasses which had accompanied him for 35 years,
Developing greater compassion for animals
As Jim expressed his new attitude toward animals, “I believe every creature is born with the inalienable right of freedom. Freedom to live in its natural environment, with its own kind, making its own decisions.I believe the law should prohibit the enslavement of all non human species.”
